Cognitive trajectories in amyloid positive and negative subjects Lead Investigator: Richard Caselli Institution : Arizona Mayo ADC E-Mail : caselli.richard@mayo.edu Proposal ID : 869 Proposal Description: We will examine the neuropsychological profile of patients diagnosed with AD and controlling for disease severity to see if there is a difference in the cognitive profiles of those who were amyloid positive vs amyloid negative. The study implications could be: 1. there is no difference in which case this would be c/w previous studies, including our own showing that there is no differential acceleration of frontally mediated cognition preclinically in e4 carriers despite the early accumulation of amyloid in the frontal lobes. 2. there is a difference and amyloid positive patients have greater frontal decline (on relevant tests) due to the excess burden of frontal amyloid pathology. 3. there is a difference and the amyloid negative patients actually have greater frontal impairment due to a lack of amyloid fending off NFT
